Willa Dean Oney – 1927-2008

Aunt Dean was my mother’s oldest sister. She was an amazing woman whom I admired so much.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her whole world was her family and she sure did impact them and everyone around her. Today, her legacy lives on and the impact she had is so obvious. Her family is absolutely amazing. They show genuine love and acceptance, pain and strength and joy to everyone.

Aunt Dean made the best banana pudding and the best cream pie ever! She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. She enjoyed making her house a home and a sanctuary. It was a place of peace and comfort. It was always welcoming. I absolutely loved any opportunity to visit.

Her son passed away in his early twenties. Many years later, she and I were walking on the beach. I was sad because our daughter had been born and passed away the same day she was born. My aunt was being sympathetic and encouraging. She said, “somehow, you learn to live with a hole in your heart”. Somehow, through great loss, she laughed and found joy despite the pain.

Willa Dean Oney was a great inspiration to me. She will always be remembered.
